Our Story: Our Journey

1995

Launch

The Community Development NGO (non-governmental organization) is the legal successor of the “Syunik” Public Organization, which was founded in 1995.
Over the course of thirty years of activity, the NGO has become the largest civil society organization in southern Armenia and works closely with local and international organizations.

2001

Charitable Activities

Between 1995 and 2001, the organization carried out a range of charitable initiatives, including the distribution of clothing and medicines to families in need, the operation of charitable soup kitchens, environmental programs, psychological and medical support, as well as short-term programs for orphans and refugees.

2006

Social Services

The period from 2001 to 2006 marked a transitional phase for the organization, during which social service centers were established, along with training programs for leaders, facilitators, and farmers. The organization also implemented youth camps, construction of irrigation water pipelines, and the establishment of farm enterprises, among other initiatives.

2008

New Opportunities

Since 2006, the Community Development NGO has implemented community development programs, including agricultural initiatives, community centers, cross-border youth trainings, summer educational camps, legal and healthcare consultations, international trainings, and tourism projects. The NGO is one of the first and key actors in implementing peace programs in the Caucasus region.

2013

New Development Programs

In April 2013, by the authority of the State Register of Legal Entities of the Republic of Armenia, the organization was renamed from “Syunik” Charitable Public Organization to “Syunik-Development” Public Organization, reflecting the new development programs it undertook. This was not merely a change of name, but a fundamental shift in the NGO’s activities and outcomes.

Today, the Community Development NGO operates in the following distinct areas: social services, agriculture, youth development, and tourism development. Each sector is managed by skilled and experienced staff.

The mission of the Community Development NGO is to support the population of Armenia’s regions in addressing social, educational, cultural, economic, and environmental challenges, in building communities that meet the demands of the 21st century, and in strengthening interethnic relations.

To support the development of a stable, progressive society that is committed to universal and democratic principles and is prepared to meet the demands and challenges of the 21st century (social, economic, cultural, civic, environmental, and more).
