Climate Protection

Our Initiatives in the Vayots Dzor Region

The environmental crisis is a global priority, threatening both our present and future, and demanding urgent and coordinated action. The Community Development NGO contributes to reducing climate-related risks, protecting the environment, and promoting environmental education in Armenia, with a particular focus on the Vayots Dzor region.

  • The main cause of climate change is greenhouse gases, with CO₂ accounting for 55.7%.
  • 94.9% of total CO₂ emissions come from the energy sector, driven by emissions from thermal power plants, motor vehicles, and the residential sector.
  • In household energy consumption, natural gas makes up 68.5%, and combined gas and electricity account for 89.2%, while the share of renewable energy remains relatively small.

Reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and promoting renewable energy use simultaneously decrease climate risks, cut costs, and help create a healthier environment for local communities.

Armenia’s International Commitments

Armenia has adopted a long-term low-emission development strategy (up to 2050), ratified the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (May 1993), and the Paris Agreement (February 2017), thereby joining the legally binding global plan to address climate change.

The Community Development NGO regularly organizes awareness-raising events, workshops, working meetings, and environmental camps to engage and educate young people across various communities in Vayots Dzor, including Yeghegnadzor, Jermuk, and Taratumb.

  • Environmental Education
We provide non-formal courses and discussions aimed at equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to understand environmental rights and climate justice principles
  • Fieldwork & Practical Activities
We organize community-based field trips, problem mapping, and monitoring of forests and water bodies to foster hands-on learning.
  • Action Planning & Skills Development
We support small teams in designing solutions, implementing pilot initiatives, collecting environmental data, and presenting results to stakeholders.
  • Develop knowledgeable, skilled, and proactive youth groups capable of addressing environmental challenges.
  • Design and implement practical solutions to tackle local environmental issues, such as waste management, water conservation, and green space protection.
  • Build active community-based initiative groups that can become driving forces for sustainable development in their regions.

Green Energy Solutions

Solar Power Systems

Year after year, solar energy is becoming an essential and sustainable tool. Staying committed to our values, we:

  • Support the installation of solar power systems in local communities and partner organizations to reduce CO₂ emissions.
  • Promote energy-efficient practices and encourage responsible resource management.
  • Create demonstration models that inspire other organizations to transition to clean energy.

Energy-Saving Approaches

We promote smart energy consumption, encourage the use of efficient equipment, and support building insulation improvements to minimize energy loss and ensure sustainable resource use.
