Modern Approaches to Fruit Growing for Vayots Dzor Farmers

Transitioning from traditional agriculture to modern practices is not always easy, and farmers often encounter various challenges along the way. To address these issues, the Community Development NGO organized a two-day training on November 7–8 in the Vayots Dzor region, focusing on innovative methods of fruit cultivation.

The training brought together both beginner and experienced fruit growers seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in line with the requirements of contemporary and sustainable agriculture.

The seminar was led by Nvard Shahmuradyan, agricultural consultant at the Shen NGO and Director of Baleni Agro Consulting LLC. She presented the core principles of modern fruit growing, integrating international experience with best practices from Armenia.

During the training, participants explored several key topics, including:

  • the impact of climate change on agricultural production,
  • the specifics of organic fruit growing,
  • the need to adapt to evolving market demands,
  • next-generation technologies and digital solutions in fruit cultivation.

Nvard Shahmuradyan emphasized that innovative approaches not only increase productivity but also reduce pesticide use, contributing to environmentally friendly and healthier fruit production.

The event featured practical discussions and experience-sharing sessions. Participants not only gained new knowledge but also had the opportunity to present their ideas and apply for a small grant program.

Such initiatives are vital for the agricultural development of Vayots Dzor. They enable farmers to become better prepared, adopt innovative solutions, and contribute to building a sustainable agricultural system.

The program is implemented by the Community Development NGO with the support of the French association L’Œuvre d’Orient, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and the German organization Brot für die Welt.
