THE COLLEAGUES OF UNHCR AND THE POPULATION, REFUGEES, AND MIGRATION BUREAU OF THE US DEPARTMENT OF STATE VISITED SYUNIK-DEVELOPMENT NGO

Syunik-Development NGO summarises the past working week with receiving international colleagues and missions

On 11 October 2022, Syunik-Development NGO received Renee Lariviere, the Regional Refugee Coordinator of the Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) Bureau of the US Department of State, and colleagues from the UNHCR Representation in Armenia: Andrey Arjupin, Protection Officer, Elen Harutyunyan, Assistant Programme Officer, Anahit Hayrapetyan, External Relations Associate, and UNHCR’s partner Mission Armenia NGO’s team leader, Tatyana Dashyan.

During the meeting, the employees of Syunik-Development NGO presented to the guests the programs of the NGO, including ongoing and future assistance, development, and educational and cultural activities.

The employees discussed some new humanitarian response initiatives assumed by the NGO, namely, the psycho-educational rehabilitation project for the children from the families displaced in Vayots Dzor because of the military conflict recently occurred on the Armenian-Azerbaijan border.

Referring to the NGO’s beneficiaries, namely the families displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh and Ukraine, and hosted in Yeghegnadzor, Vayk, Areni, and other settlements in Vayots Dzor, the colleagues highlighted the importance of continuous assistance projects for the displaced families to help them endure the upcoming harsh winter and to meet their specific needs and discussed issues related to shelter livelihood and employment.

Led by Syunik-Development NGO, the guests also visited vulnerable families displaced from Ukraine and hosted in the dormitory in Yeghegnadzor. During their discussions with the beneficiaries, the UNHCR and US colleagues learned about their priority issues and concerns, but also their new life and new opportunities in the host country.

At the end of the meeting, Syunik-Development NGO’s staff expressed their gratitude to the Regional Refugee Coordinator of the US Department of State, as well as to UNHCR and its partner Mission Armenia NGO, for their continuous humanitarian assistance, legal aid, and referrals benefitting the displaced families. They particularly highlighted the importance of close cooperation with UNHCR and the Agency’s readiness to support and encourage the NGO’s various activities and new endeavors.

In their turn, the UNHCR colleagues passed on their appreciation to Syunik-Development NGO, expressing readiness for further productive cooperation, the development, and the implementation of joint projects and activities.
