This time Spain was the discovering spot for young people.
On September 25-30 within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, a working visit on Rural Culture Development for Young Workers entitled Youth Workers and Rural Heritage Development took place in the Cantabria region of Spain. The program was attended by groups from Armenia, Spain, Italy, Egypt, and
Romania. The program was implemented by Youth Initiative Center NGO-YIC, in Gyumri. There were four participants from the Republic of Armenia, including Hasmik Galstyan, Syunik-Development NGO Youth Programs Coordinator. The participants were hosted by the Asociación Ser Joven organization.
The project aimed at showing the participants how rural culture is preserved in Spain through young people? What role do young people play in preserving, increasing visibility, and developing that culture? Hasmik Galstyan was sharing her experience with the NGO introducing the cultural and historical peculiarities of the Cantabria Autonomous Region, which were discovered during the rich, productive, and interesting working visit.
During the working visit, a meeting was held with the officials of the Santander Youth Department, where the norms of youth issues in their communities were
presented and discussed. The young participants revealed the unique cuisine of the region to the Sobreliano Palace, from ancient Roman sites to the wine and vodka factory.
The groups also visited the Reynosa National Festival, a cozy corner of Santilias, an agricultural market operating since the 13th century in Potes. Hasmik noted, that Cantabrians preserve their traditions in the best way, especially in the city of Reynosa, where almost everyone participated in the local festival in national costumes. The working visit gave the young participants an opportunity to get a complete picture of rural culture and the ways of presenting the culture, to apply them in their own country.
